My husband said that I don't know how to make the sides that come with the fried chicken. I told him that I am working on it but Coleslaw is not a problem. He wondered if I had the ingredients for Coleslaw. I told him that I have the ingredients and then some. He said that no one can make like the one that comes with the Fried chicken, but he was willing to try my weird method. Vegetable oil being the only fat, versus cream and other fats in the other Coleslaw did not sound like Coleslaw to him. When he saw me chopping the green cabbage very fine, he asked me if I can chop the purple one ( meaning the Red Cabbage) a little thicker because it is hard to pick up very finely chopped Coleslaw with the fork.
He actually liked it.
Dearest Munir,
ReplyDeleteGood for you! Hard work pays off for being tasty and above all a lot more healthy!
Thanks for your comments and visits; they mean a lot to me.
Stay well and warm.
Hugs,
Mariette
This sounds delicious, it reminds me of when we used to make coleslaw at my first job, I worked in a drive in restaurant when I was 12 and 13 and made our dressing very similar. I recall the lemon juice, sugar and oil, no ginger or other spices though if I remember right. It was simple and people loved it along with their chicken.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week!
Hi sweety!! Thanks for your lovely comment :)
ReplyDeleteI really love your post, specially your photos!!

Hi Munir. Thanks for the visiting my blog. This not only sounds delicious, but it's colorful and pleasing to the eye. :-) Do you know what I liked best about the recipe? How you mentioned about the lemon slice garnishes--that they could be saved to be used in tea later. Waste not, want not. :-) Very nice.
ReplyDeleteWhat was your book about on Lulu?
The recipe looks healthy and colorful!
ReplyDeleteIt looks utterly refreshing and sounds totally yummy!! And healthier than coleslaw with mayonnaise! And shredding cabbage finely is such a skill so yay for you!!
ReplyDeleteTake care
x
Thanks for your sweety comment, i really appreciate it!!
ReplyDeleteGreat post, i like it very much. You have a great blog :)
Come back to my new post;

Yum, I love cabbage.
ReplyDeleteLooks good, especially considering the only colesaw that I ever eat is from KFC.
ReplyDeleteI bet this is way better than KFC's!

I am going to try this. I don't like the creamy sweet kind so ths sounds perfect!
ReplyDeleteYour husband doesn't know what he is talking about! :P
ReplyDeleteThank you for showing real photos of your food creation :)
ReplyDeleteGreat blog, nice atmosphere, interesting here with you. :) Regards! In my note of
ReplyDeleteextraordinary event involving historic steam locomotives. You are cordially invited! :)
I hope you enjoy it. Kisses.
That sounds like a yummy coleslaw that wouldn't be full of calories. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHoney, where I come from, if it ain't sweet as honey and full of mayonnaise, it ain't coleslaw. lol
ReplyDeletemany details, good read.
ReplyDeleteSomething to try out this weekend.
Must put on my chef hat soon. It's been too long.

ReplyDeleteI love cabbage! Especially purple cabbage. If I cut up a plate of raw purple cabbage, my family will eat an entire head of it without even thinking about it. (We are an odd crew.) I love coleslaw, too, but can't do mayonnaise, so I've learned to do it the other way. Your way. Which works! Love all those ingredients.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds delicious... and healthy.
ReplyDeleteThat looks amazing. I am going to try to make this!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds perfect for the holiday weekend.
ReplyDeleteYes...... it sounds very healthy and ideal for outdoors if you can do that.

ReplyDeleteI would like to invite you to follow me back if you wish.
That looks very good! I'm glad to hear it was a hit with your husband. Thank you for visiting and commenting on my blog! :-)
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a yummy recipe. I seldom have a ginger root in the kitchen so I'm wondering if the bottled kind would be okay to substitute? We're used to the creamy dressing made with mayo. But hubby had a heart attack almost 2 years ago and he needs to eat healthier.
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting on my blog. I'm already a follower on your other blog, are you following me? If not, I invite you to do so. I'll be sure to put your blog title on my sidebar.

ReplyDeleteDearest Munir,
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your first day of Summer.

Yum. I love coleslaw. My wife Jilda makes amazing coleslaw. Her potato salad is very good too.
ReplyDeleteSounds so yum and healthy! Thanks for sharing!'

Nice post :)
ReplyDeleteSounds delicious to me.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was growing up in Tucson pre-air conditioning (evaporated cooler only) we never used mayonnaise. Mustard only on our sandwiches. Beside just healthy eating the heat made anything with mayonnaise suspect.
ReplyDeleteOur coleslaw was always made with oil and spices. So good and rather refreshing. One of the first times I had a mayonnaise based coleslaw I was shocked when it was drowning in mayo and that is all you really tasted.
I make a great Japanese potato salad that the creaminess comes from mashing up(leaving chunky) the potatoes and adding just a small amount of Japanese Mayo.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.
cheers, parsnip
Sounds delicious. I'll have to try it!
ReplyDeleteoh that sounds different delish , I think I must try this , hello I'm Sheila from Beth post I love trying new recipe's ..Coleslaw one of my favourite dishes.

ReplyDeleteThat sounds very good. I love ginger, so I will probably try this one.
ReplyDeleteMy wife Jilda makes great coleslaw. Yum! Yours looks good too.
ReplyDeleteColeslaw is very healthy for you.
ReplyDeleteIn my family there was cabbage soup on the stove every day and people lived long lives.
I like to buy the ready chopped packages and use them for cabbage soup.
Saves me the trouble of chopping lol
It seems delicious!!
ReplyDeleteXoxo!
I think it sounds delicious.
ReplyDeleteYummy ! Awesome recipe !
ReplyDeleteThis sounds so good and thank you for sharing your recipe.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,

It looked delicious, Munir. Did he think it was just as good as the chicken place? I think it was probably better!
ReplyDeleteI'm always trying different coleslaw recipes... yours is next. The photo looks very blurry, also I can't find any links to follow your page, it would be great if you added some readers like bloglovin or at least a subscribe with email link so your readers can be notified each time you post something. Best wishes
ReplyDeleteHow could you possibly KNOW how much i enjoy coleslaw??? I'll give this recipe a try. I have had plenty of variations . . and now i wish I'd kept track of how many ways people have thought to do this dish. Chicken or not - i would appreciate plenty of your "side dish."
ReplyDeleteHappy Day to You!!
This looks really yummy, and thankfully, it's gluten free :)
ReplyDeleteOhhh, that does look good. Not sure the man of the house would like it, but I think I'll spring it on him some night. Thanks for sharing.

Hello and thank you for visiting my blog, I enjoy meeting new (to me) bloggers.
ReplyDeleteGinger and lemon coleslaw sounds delicious... I love the taste of ginger. I drink lemon and ginger tea all the time, in preference to ordinary tea.
I've never tried making homemade coleslaw. Yours looks good!

ReplyDeleteI actually like homemade coleslaw better than the one that comes with the commercial fried chicken meals. It's not as sweet, which is my preference. I think I'll try your recipe.
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by the table. I'm glad you enjoyed the farmer's market tour. :)

thank you for visiting me, I came right back to visit, cole slaw is a big hit in this house, I will have to try your recipe!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit!
ReplyDeleteI like your version, healthier, probably crunchier and definitely more versatile. Coleslaw is such a great side dish, and it can sit around for hours if no mayo is involved.
I'm a big fan of cabbage and ginger, and this slaw looks really tasty!
ReplyDeleteLooks good, must try. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou have a wonderful blog and so many recipes...wow, got to try them.

ohh this looks delicious and healthy!!
ReplyDeleteI am a *big* fan of cabbage. In the summer, red cabbage thinly sliced with equally thinly sliced apples, sunflower seeds, dried currants and olive oil and balsamic vinegar is just lovely (sea salt and pepper to taste.) In winter seasoned ground beef and cooked cabbage is super satisfying.
ReplyDeleteSeems to be delectable. Thanks for sharing this.
ReplyDeleteSounds very nice and refreshing. I usually use pre-sliced/packaged cabbage and poppy-seed dressing as a short cut version and fortunately it's getting the husband's approval. LOL
ReplyDeleteNice post..Will try at home..Thanks for sharing..:)
ReplyDelete... yummy ... even just chopped red cabbage simmered with a chopped peeled apple ... omg ... smiles ... let's do it ... Love, cat.
ReplyDeleteI love coleslaw or just about any other way cabbage is prepared for that matter. Your presentation is beautiful.

Hi it looks yummy :) i should try it at home now :)
ReplyDeleteEw! I *don't* like how the coleslaw tastes like that comes with the chicken, nor the parfaits and potato salad as well as the crab! Those are super nasteeeeeeee! I can taste the preservatives and processed stuff in them. xP
ReplyDeleteGive me homemade stuff over anything processed or preserved anytime! <3

Sounds good Munir, when I worked in a place in my early teens we never used the mayonnaise in our coleslaw, it was lemon juice, oil, sugar, white pepper and hmmm I'm not too sure if that was all we used, I'm talking about 38 years ago so the mind is a wee bit rusty lol Everyone loved our coleslaw though, even I liked it and I was barely a teenager and never used to eat "stuff" like this!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a fantastic week! Thanks for the trip back down memory lane. :-)
Sounds very, VERY tasty!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds good. My wife makes incredible coleslaw. She learned from her mom so it's an old recipe.
